Who we are

At its heart, The View Alexandria is a community where purpose, joy and connection shape daily life. Meet the people, explore the programs and discover the welcoming spirit that makes our campus a vibrant part of the Goodwin Living family.

Goodwin Living

A legacy of purpose

Founded in 1967, Goodwin Living was born from a holistic vision to support, honor and uplift the lives of older adults and those who care for them. Over the decades, we’ve grown from our first Life Plan communities to our specialized care services that include home health, home care, brain health, hospice, rehabilitation and more, always staying true to our faith-based, not-for-profit roots.

The View Alexandria originally opened as Hermitage Northern Virginia and was acquired by Goodwin Living in 2022. With its seven-acre, West End campus and long history of serving older adults, it now benefits from Goodwin Living’s expanded resources, purpose-driven care and community-first philosophy.

The View Alexandria

Care, connection, and a close-knit community

The View Alexandria combines the trusted quality of Goodwin Living care with a more intimate and financially accessible model. With just over 150 residents, our campus feels like a large family where everyone knows your name—team members and neighbors alike. Here, care is personal and relationships are genuine, creating a family-like culture that sets us apart.

Residents often choose The View Alexandria to be close to loved ones, for the simplicity of apartment living, the no-commitment contract model and the exceptional amenities and services that bring people together each day. Specialized healthcare services are delivered directly to private apartments, making it easy to receive excellent care right at home. With its dedication to the Goodwin Living mission of supporting, honoring and uplifting older adults, The View Alexandria offers peace of mind and dignity, balancing independence with the right level of support.

Goodwin Living Foundation

Driving our purpose together

The Goodwin Living Foundation is deeply woven into life at The View Alexandria. From funding resident-led projects to providing financial assistance that ensures no one has to leave for financial reasons through no fault of their own, the Goodwin Living Foundation turns our shared values into daily impact.

Its reach goes even further, offering education grants and citizenship programs for team members—strengthening the sense of belonging across our community. Many residents also choose to support the foundation themselves, knowing their generosity helps sustain the care, connection and opportunities that make The View Alexandria special.

  • “What I like most about The View Alexandria is that it is large enough to have so many activities though small enough that you really get to know people.”
